GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT SERVICES
What should I wear to my session/class?
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in. We ask that all our clients wear socks. We suggest wearing layers of clothing during the colder months.
Please refrain from wearing perfume or strongly scented lotions as some individuals have allergies to these products.
Do I need to bring anything?
Nope. We’ll provide mats, water, and enthusiasm. Just bring a open mind and willingness to try something new.
How often should I do Pilates?
To begin, we recommend trying to come 2-3 times per week depending on your current fitness and activity level. Consistency, of course, will help you strengthen and build upon the exercises, which will ultimately lead to faster results.
For group classes, can I be any age and fitness level?
We want to help you be your best at any age and any fitness level. We have several levels for our Quintet classes to ensure you’re placed with other students that will stimulate your abilities. Our Mat classes are for all levels and exercises can be modified to suit you and your needs. We do offer Beginner, Mixed Level, and Advanced classes, so there is a wide range of offerings for you to join or grow into!
General Conditioning vs. Rehabilitation
Group classes are for general conditioning and are not intended for clients with active or acute injuries. Please let us know if you have an injury you are concerned about before coming to group classes. Depending on your injury, we may recommend beginning with private sessions and then joining group classes once your injury is stable and you have learned how to safely modify exercises.
Is Pilates Like Yoga?
Yoga and Pilates are great complements to each other because they are both mind-body practices that lengthen and strengthen the body while relieving stress. Where they differ is that while Yoga focuses on maintaining static poses, Pilates emphasizes controlled, precise movements through a series of exercises and stretches. Pilates also focuses on strengthening your large and smaller muscle groups, which in turn improves flexibility, balance, and endurance.
Pilates creates balance between strength and flexibility, develops a taller, more balanced posture, and releases muscular tension, all while toning the muscles for a healthy body and appearance. Those who practice Pilates protect themselves from injury, develop long, lean muscles, reduce stress everywhere in the body and mind, and enjoy enhanced mobility in their daily lives.
What health benefits can I expect?
There are so many benefits where do we begin:
- Strengthened core, abdominals, shoulders, hips, and spine
- A balanced, toned, body with long, lean muscles
- Decreased stress
- Less pain and stiffness
- A healthy, supple spine that absorbs shock
- Kinder, gentler conditioning that gets results without pain
- Improved mental outlook and increased motivation
- Better balance and coordination
- Rehabilitation
- Protection from injury
Which Group Class is best for me as someone who is new to Pilates and TRX?
We typically recommend that clients with no previous Pilates or TRX experience take at least one private session prior to starting in group classes. This gets you familiar with the terminology and exercises, as well as the equipment and props we use. It also gives us a chance to assess any special needs or concerns you might have, so we can better assist you with your personal fitness goals.
However, if you prefer to go straight to group classes, any of our Beginner-level classes will be perfect. We keep our class sizes intentionally small, so you’re sure to get individualized attention. Our teachers can also modify to address any specific needs or problem areas for multiple students so you’re ensured a safe and effective workout.
