A Day in the life of a studio owner

I want to share a sneak peek at what’s going on for Blue Sparrow Pilates, The Hatchery, and me. And take a look into the schedule of other Pilates entrepreneurs. Those of you who know me know I always have a few big plans brewing. But the reality is we only have so much time. So, in the spirit of transparency, I want to share a bit about what I’m working on.

I’ve shared over the last year the challenges I’ve been through treating cancer. Even though the short-term treatment is over, my recovery and long-term treatment is just beginning. I have a lot of shoulder rehabilitation to do on the side that had lymph node removal and radiation and need to rebuild my overall strength. Radiation seems to have impacted my thyroid. So, in addition to hormone therapy, I’m working through thyroid treatment.  My goal? Continue to create balance in my life. It’s hard for me to prioritize myself in front of my business and it requires constant work and adjusting to make that a reality. Finding balance also means I have to turn down some opportunities and be better at prioritizing. But I’m learning more everyday.

I'm super passionate about all of my current projects and I am working on ways to see each of them through to the end. I’m working on the manuscript for my first book for Pilates teachers, as well as a Pilates App. To connect with and support other Pilates teachers, I’ve also created several workshops: Breakthrough Exam Fear, The Power of Cueing, How to Teach Complex Reformer Exercise, and Maximize Revenue with Circuit workshop. And I recently released a beautiful poster designed with words I wrote about the values I see in the Pilates community. I’m hoping may inspire other Pilates studio and teachers.

‍Social media makes it look like everyone else has it all figured out.

‍I don’t think anyone knows exactly how to fit it all together — teaching, running a business, family, health & wellness. So, I asked several Pilates entrepreneurs to share what an average day looks like for them. By the looks of their social media accounts, you’d think they just do Pilates all day. But that certainly can’t be the whole picture. They too are working on fitting all their goals into the day.

Through sustaining a business since 2007 in San Francisco, I’ve learned to roll with the punches to survive. That often means changing course and adjusting timelines.

We all try to do the best we can. Plan as much as possible. Work towards goals that we’re passionate about. Make changes when necessary. I’m reminding myself to touch base with other pilates entrepreneurs because it keeps me grounded. It reminds me that many of us are working towards a common goal and have each other to share with.

Reach out if you want to discuss managing a busy schedule, class planning, or maintaining a robust client list. I’m here for you.
